I want to learn as much as I can about woodcarving techniques from different times and places.
I am very interested in the carved wooden molds that have been used all over the world to make shaped cakes, candy, and cookies. I look for these molds online, in books, and everywhere I go. I study them to understand as much as I can about mold carving techniques. Sometimes I try to carve similar molds, but the techniques are challenging. There is so much more I would like to learn! |
This year I received a Research Grant from the World Wood Day Foundation to continue my study of carved wooden molds. Although these molds are less common today, there are still a few master carvers working in several countries. I hope to hire these carvers to teach me in their workshops for 1-2 weeks. The first country I plan to visit is South Korea.

Thank you very for reading about my project! I am happy to answer any questions about the project plan or my goals. I can also provide references from carvers I have studied with in the past. I appreciate any help you may be able to give in my effort to learn more about the beautiful tradition of dasik pan carving.
